PEOPLING POLITICS

PEOPLING POLITICS is an interdisciplinary research network focused on studying U.S. politics through a people-centered lens, emphasizing the roles of race, class, inequality, and social relationships in shaping democratic institutions and outcomes. The visual identity system was designed to present the network as credible, modern, and collaborative while supporting its mission of connecting scholars and practitioners working to better understand and strengthen democracy.

OBJECTIVE:
Develop a complete, scalable brand identity and visual communications system for Peopling Politics. The project included designing a cohesive brand kit and applying it across digital and physical touchpoints such as social media campaigns, event promotions, symposium materials, program publications, and event signage. The design system translates the network’s research manifesto into accessible visual storytelling while ensuring clarity, professionalism, and adaptability for academic and public-facing contexts.

TARGET AUDIENCE:
Scholars, political practitioners, policy researchers, and students engaged in the study of U.S. politics, as well as members of the broader public interested in democracy, civic engagement, and the social forces shaping political institutions.

SOCIAL MEDIA CAMPAIGN:

As part of the Peopling Politics visual identity system, a scalable social media campaign was developed to translate the network’s manifesto and programming into accessible, visually engaging content. The campaign includes narrative carousel posts such as “Who We Are,” “Meet the Organizers,” and “Speaker Spotlight,” along with promotional graphics for the symposium and mini-conference. The system establishes a consistent visual voice across platforms while highlighting key scholars, event details, and the network’s people-centered approach to studying U.S. politics.

COLOR PALETTE & IMAGE TREATMENTS:

The Peopling Politics palette blends institutional credibility with human-centered energy. Space Indigo and Honey Bronze ground the brand in stability and academic authority, while Vibrant Coral acts as a visual call to action. Light Cyan signals a people-centered vision of democracy, and Dark Magenta, honoring Sheila Y. Oliver, reflects the network’s commitment to equity and plurality. Imagery is posterized and recolored using this palette, with freeform gradient overlays and dynamic layering of content to create a bold, cohesive visual language across the identity system.
